CD's burned in iTunes won't play on a CD player

For years, I've been burning CD's with iTunes, using the Audio CD format. I was able to play them in a CD player as well as my computer. Now, using that format, I am no longer able to play them on a CD player. I was told to change the format to MP3 but that won't allow me to play it in a CD player either. What could have gone wrong and what should I do in the future?

Changing the format to MP3 only makes things worse. Fewer
CD players "do" MP3 than do CD-R. That said, some CD/DVD
players simply ignore home-brew CDs. I used to say "older
models," but I'm told that new Mercedes Benz players won't
read CD-Rs.

If the CD player is spec'd to play CD-Rs, then I'd suspect your
CD burner. If you haven't done so, get a CD/DVD lens cleaner
and see if that's salutary. If that really cheap solution doesn't
work, it may well be that the "for years" has tired your poor
burner out, and it needs replaced.

It would be beneficial to have more than one CD player to test these. You say "a CD player", but it's not clear whether you're testing them in more than one.

Well my newest problem is that when I reinsert a burned CD back into my computer I get the message that there are no volumes this mac can read and it has to be ejected. What's that all about???????

Umm, sounds like the burner is screwed.

Try burning a CD of files using the Finder and a blank CD, and see if that's readable when you re-insert it.

It sounds to me like either this particular batch of discs is bad, or you're burning them at too high a speed. If you want to maintain compatibility with standalone players, always burn at the lowest possible speed.

Have you had this problem with more than one brand of discs?
