cell / mobile phone emulator software...

octane

I have issues, OK!
Does anyone know of a cell / mobile phone emulator for mac os X?

I'm developing a WAP extension to one of my web-based applications, so I need to test my decks...

Do a search for WAP. I remember awnsering this question a few months ago with some links, but I don't have the time right now to find them again.

(You asked the original one...short term memory or just too many things going on right now?)

Here it is:

Done that, that's why I'm here...

I know when I downloaded the j2me sdk it came with an emulator (for windows :\) I haven't started mucking around with that yet though. I hope you can find your answers.

I've just spent about half an hour on the Sourceforge web site, and although there seems to be lots of cross-platform or web-based emulators, they're all roll-your-own source code or totally hit-n-miss affairs with no documentation or a complete assumption that you have a clue what you're meant to do with the collection of files you download.

It's incredibly intimidating, hugely frustrating and utterly unrewarding.

The search continues...

Spend a couple of hundred quid on the latest phones and browse from them... genius ;)

I really hope you weren't being sarcastic. I find the English are the only ones who can carry sarcasm off and make it look good.

In any case, I have such a mobile phone, but I don't have access to a gateway server right now [not until we're closer to a reasonably stationary launch date].

Also, using my mobile to test my development work is going to cost a fortune.

If you want to pick up the bill, I'll go with your idea .. no worries!..

You might want to set your phone up to use the free public gateway - http://waptunnel.com/ It doesn't work on my phone because of my providef (cingular), but its worth a try. If you need help setting up your phone, or you need to unlock it to change the gateway visit http://www.cellphonehacks.com (be warned mature advertising). Unlocking your phone and changing you gateway are both legal.

Hmmm! Much food for thought.

I'm not sure unlocking my mobile is going to be a viable option; I'm on a business contract, but I'll check anyway.

Thanks fella! I'll have a look around...
