Changing Harddrive icon...

I hate to sound like a newbie but this is driving me crazy, i copied the icon i wanted and pasted it into the getinfo windows of macintosh HD but nothing happens!
please help.
 
The original HD icon is ugly, in my opinion. I am surprised how many people leave it like that.
 
I actually don't mind it. It looks like an actual hard drive. Sure, there's nothing pretty about the look of an internal hard drive, but there you have it. :p
 
I don't mind it either. I like to leave certain things the way that they came, just so it looks the way a Mac is supposed to look. Personal preference, I guess. But maybe it is time for a change. :)
 
I am kinda of a icon geek anyway. Change my HD icon to the Finder smiling face. Out of all the great eye candy features of OSX, the HD icon never seemed to fit in my opinion.
A lot of new Mac users don't know who to change the icons. That would be a great "How-to" for new users.
 
I'm not displaying the drives on my desktop. Hence there's not really a need for me to change the icon. ;) I do give my external drives and USB sticks icons, though. I wish Apple would change the Finder so that harddrive (and other media) icons would show the percentage of free space somehow.
 
Yes, but not percentage. ;) ... And I meant inside the icon, actually. Graphically. Like: Green and red bars or having the icon coloured or something.

I thought that I had written a little tip for changing the icons, but I must not have, so just wrote one.

Change the Icon of Any Finder Item

I went ahead and changed my hard disk icon, too. The new one is sort of growing on me now.
