Changing networks with X11

A recurring and annoying problem for me is changing network connections with X11. While other applications handle this gracefully, X11 gets very unhappy for me.

I would understand that I have to close windows, perhaps even relaunch the application, given that I have a new IP address.

What happens, however, is that I cannot launch new Xterms (or eterms) and there is no log message I can find that explains why not. I select a terminal from the Applications list, the window flashes briefly on the screen, and then disappears. When I reach this state, only rebooting my machine will rectify things.

Anyone seen this problem

Anyone know where I can find some system log messages about it?

This is a very well known problem, and there is currently no work around, just have to restart X11.

Thanks for the reply. What I find most annoying is that restarting X11 is not enough and I usually have to reboot my machine! Logging out is not even enough. If I simply restart X11, it will fail immediately just as it was doing before quitting.

Horrible pain in the ass!!
