Changing 'OS' HDD

The drive which stores my OS is only 10gb and is running out of space, I have a 'new' 30gb which I want to replace it with, is their any way of copying the contents of my 'primary' hdd to the new drive so I don't have to start again :(

Thanks in advance :)

Why not just add the new drive and keep the old one instead of replacing it.

The G4 will support 2 drives, and the IDE and Power Cable for a second drive are there.

I've got a 120gb second drive so I wanted to upgrade my OS drive :(

You could use Disk Copy to make a .dmg out of your 20gb drive onto the 120gb drive, install the 30gb, then expand the .dmg into the 30gb.

Take the 120GB drive out, put the 30GB in it's place, clone the small drive to the new one, and put the 120 back in.

I have used Carbon Copy, I've created the image and have mounted it but when I try to copy the folders to my new drive it says I need special permisions even though I have set myself to 'owner' on all the folders? :(

I think CCC has a restore facility too...? Maybe not, it's been a while since I used it.

you could also go into Terminal and do this:

sudo cp -fr <drag/drop CCC drive icon>[space]<drag/drop destination drive icon>

...and enter your admin password when prompted.

I think that'll do it - though not if you're booted from the destination drive...

I changed the preferences and it cloned the drive rather than make an image, it worked perfect, thanks for all the help once again! :)
