Classic iMac to de discontinued ?

It looks like prices on classic iMac are dropping on supermarkets around here... will these disappear on Apple Expo Paris ? The only G3 left would be the iBook, unless this one is upgraded at the same time.
 
They're definately on their way out. The eMac has basically replaced the classic iMac so they probably won't be changes made (besides dropping it totally).

USD to CHF is 1,5, so the 500 MHz option is $666, the 600 MHz option is $933, including taxes.

I was surprised to know they are still selling the classic iMac. I'm pretty sure they're just using up the stock now.

Has it occurred to anyone else that the classic iMac might even be a bit, well, collectible now? The first iMac was judged a "design icon of the twentieth century" along with the coke bottle and VW beetle. Perhaps in a decade they'll actually be worth more than they are now!

If I see an old iMac going very cheap, I'd pick it up even if it is a little dated, simply for that reason.
 
I would like to get one if they were $400. Running OS X 10.2 would just be enough.
 
i doubt that apple has just been selling off the stock of old imacs. in the past when they swtched the line, the old ones were unavailable in a few weeks. i don't think apple produces very far ahead of the demand. I would guess that the old imac does still appeal to many people and so apple has kept them available since the production is already set up. As long as they sell enough to be profitable, they would continue to be available. Perhaps we'll even see the G4 version before they lose their appeal. I am sure their last days are coming, but i doubt it will be quite so soon. especially if they are considered "design icons".

emac is the g4 version basically... i want one.. but i have a power mac so im just bein stupid ;)

so hows the sissah doin? ;)
 
IIRC, the G3 iMacs were announced to be EOL back in 2001. But there was so much uproar that Apple kept producing the 2 current models. They'll probably discontinue them for good in the next few months.
