Classic installer "not available" to load

I recently upgraded to an imac with 10.4.7 installed. I have several graphic applications that I don't want to spend $$$$s on upgrading when I only use them occassionally - but do use them. I've tried 4 different Classic OS installation disks (from 8 up to 9.2.2) and all of them will not allow me to use the installer...its "zeroed" out. Have tried to boot from these disks with no luck. I felt confident in updating my computer since I read several places that I could still add Classic to run these applications. What am I doing wrong here?

What model mac do you have? Some macs will only boot in OS X. You'll have to install the "classic environment" which should be on disk 2 of your system restore disks if you need a classic enviroment.

It sounds like your new iMac is Intel-based. Intel-based Macs cannot run Classic. Classic is available only on PPC-based Macs.
