codec & avi

Excuse my inexperience. Here is the question. I am having trouble viewing .avi files. I have quicktime pro, windows media, and real player. I believe they are coded in a format now usable on the Mac. Is there a fix or work around?

I assume you're referring to DivX in an AVI container. Quicktime kinda sucks for DivX playback, even with the http://www.3ivx.com codec. You'll never get it to play back audio correctly unless you run the AVI through DivX Doctor or Validator. Go to http://www.videolan.org and grab a copy of VLC. It plays AVI fine, along with some other formats that Quicktime doesn't (AC3). You could also check out MPlayer for OS X.

I believe that support ofr the DVCPRO codec has been added recently to QT. Would that be a DVCPRO-encoded AVI file?
