Combining pdfs or tif files

How would I go about combining a bunch of tif or pdf files produced by scanning a mutipage document into a single file?
Can the process be automate so that files such as 1.tif, 2.tif, 3.tif...... can be combined automatically and in the right sequence?

PDFs can be combined using Adobe Acrobat Professional. To combine TIFs will require something like Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, GIMP, or some other high level image editing program.

If your scans are primarily text an OCR program such as ReadIRIS can convert your scans to text which could then be combined in any number of different word processors into a single file.

If you select more than one single-page PDF in the Finder and open them in Preview, they become a single multi-page document which can then be saved.
