Hi everyone. I was given a macbook air with a broken lcd that was practically new short of the damaged lcd. I took everything out, got the lcd fixed and everything works find except four keys. Number 9, O L and the | key. I would also like to mention I replaced the top case(which is where the keyboard and your hands would rest) with a used one from ebay because mine was damaged. This required moving those ribbon cables that are very easy to damage. I believe this could be the reason the keys aren't working, however I am unsure as to how mac keyboards work with sending the signal.

This is the weird part, sometimes when I push lets say the number 9 button down a few times then hit a different key that works correctly, it puts a whole bunch of random numbers. When I do that with the L key I get a bunch of ascii code like a triangle, and a few other weird things.

The keys feel fine, and I doubt anything was every spilled on it. I want to know if anyone would suggest replacing the cable, that could have been damage first for $25.00, its called a IPD board flex cable. Clearly I'm into this thing for some time, and money but if I have to buy a new keyboard for about 200 bucks I think it might be time for it to be sold as parts!

I'm trying to get a friend to let me use a wireless keyboard and link it to my airbook, to see if when the keys are pressed on it if they come up on screen.

I think they sold you a bum top case unfortunately. I never seen a cable fix something like that. But, of course, out of the hundreds of top cases I've replaced on all kinds of Apple portables, when I've replaced the top cases they have all came with cables. At least with Apple, there has never been an option to just get a cable only.
