COMPusa is worthless

I wanted to upgrade my graphics card.... so, I drove 20+ miles one way to compusa.....

out of a dozen or so cards, NOT one worked on a Mac! Windows only!

Apple, and compusa.... make up your minds... either offer Mac stuff (ALL mac stuff), or dont! Get rid of mac stuff altogether. It's embarassing.

Im tired of going there and compusa NOT having what im looking for... They have Mac games that are 3+ yrs old... doom, doom II, quake. Stuff nobody uses anymore.

the mac section in this store "was" BIG when it first started... a long time ago.... I have noticed it shrinking, getting smaller, surrounded by Pee cee stuff...

there is less there each time I visit. :(

Circuit city.... worse. They offer almost NO mac stuff.... even though my understanding is they are suppose to??? or not? who knows... .

All these years using macs, since 1991, and its just about impossible to find mac stuff in a local store. This gets real old.

CompUSA does have a limited software selection in the mac section, but I heard they do have a lot of hybrid CDs around the store.

Circuit City and Apple are breaking up since Circuit City sucks at selling Macs.

MicroCenter usually has a nice selection, that, and well the Apple Store.

I think your best bet for finding a video card would be an online store, though.

yeh, I usually shop online.... for mac stuff... it would just be "nice" if I could walk in a store, and see tons of mac stuff... see, touch, hold.... try out... before I buy..

I must be dreaming... after all these yrs, getting mac stuff still a pain in the a$$.

the nearest apple store is over an hour drive one way from me, so thats out of the question. :(

Hmmm, I wonder if there would be big profit in opening an 'All Apple' store. I count 8 mac-freaks in my town(that I know) so far, but I'm sure there are many I'm missing...anywho, do you think it could pay off starting something like this?

Roadtrip time! ;)

I'll tell you what, the nearest apple store from me is around 2 hrs each way, but when I drove there recently I have to say it was worth it. It was like being in a utopia...they even let you leech off of their high speed airport connection if you bring your powerbook. The whole place is filled with knowledgable staff who are actually EXCITED about the products they sell. It really is a sight to behold. I'd be more than willing to take a drive down there again if I really needed something badly or if I wanted knowledgable advice in terms of making a purchase.

The service at CompUSA for macs is just an embarrasment. The last time I was there they had the iPod unplugged and almost out of batteries, it didn't even have any songs loaded on it. I actually spent around 15 mins setting up all the macs and the iPod so that they could be usable for demos. Meanwhile attendants are all over the place showing people PC's. What a joke. The one mac attendant I did see there was being asked questions about the new iMac, and she kept having to look in a binder that she had near her with spec sheets. I mean if you work in the Apple section, at least know what you are selling. When she walked away I answered all of the guys questions, I don't know if he ended up wanting to buy one though...

at one time, I went to compusa every saturday for a while (a few yrs ago)... got to know 2 guys there who actually used macs, and liked em... and knew lots about them. :)

I asked about p/t jobs.... they told me that compusa does NOT hire People just for macintosh help..... your hired to do all their "other" pc stuff... and when you get a few moments, rush over to the mac section and help out. :(

this really sucks... it wont do any good, but im writing apple a letter or email..... see if they are aware of this.

its sad when I go there and cant even get a graphics card... the once BIG apple section is getting ever so small....

I have been trying to get my printer to work with OS X (it's an HP LaserJet), and I needed a cable to connect the parallel port of the printer to the USB connection on my Mac.

I first went in to the Apple section of the store, and spent fifteen minutes looking first for the cable, then just at random stuff. No one asked if I needed help for the entire time I was there.

Then I went to the PC cables, to see if there was something that I could use. I was asked no less than ten times in five minutes if I needed help. None of them could help me, of course, since what I wanted was simple.

I left, and ironically found the cable that I needed on the net within about five minutes of searching. A few days later, I went back into CompUSA for something, and noticed that the cable I had just purchased was on the shelf in the Mac section (I am sure it wasn't there before), but the funny part is that I got the cable online for $29.95, and the price in CompUSA was $69.95. Same exact cable (same manufacturer, even!).

Go online. There are even less Mac products in the computer retail stores in Taiwan, I order products online and have them ship to Taiwan.

You'd be amazed of what Mac products you find online.

Also, http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ is a great place to visit if you think about upgrading your Mac.

Screw COMPUSA... they treat Macs like crap. That is why Apple pulled out for a while. I hope you have a MicroCenter near you. At my MC... they have a cool store within a store thing going on. I go there just to play with the new Macs. :)

FWIW, J&R, though only local to NYC, has an entire floor dedicated to Macs. And they do a serious amount of mail order. www.jandr.com.

J&R... im impressed! They have an Mac "link" on their main page.. compUSA dont even have that..... last time I checked, finding mac stuff on CRAPusa's site is a mystery. Difficult at best.
