Configuring Installation Hanging up

I'm running on Tiger 10.5.2 and have tried to upgrade to 10.5.8. After the download and the restart my system hangs up on "Confiquring Installation"

The reason I need to upgrade is one of my software programs continually crashes with the report saying:

EXC_BAD_ ACCESS
Kern_ Invalid_ Address
 
First, do you mean Tiger 10.4.2? Cause all 10.5.x releases are Leopard. If your trying to upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5 than the reasons for a hang could be different than a 10.5.x to 10.5.x upgrade.

A Kern_Invalid_Address crash doesn't necessarily mean you have to upgrade your OS either. There are numerous reasons for a crash to report that error code (many of them relating to RAM). What application is crashing?
