connecting an emac

can anyone help i bought my son an older emac for his collage work after getting the wrong airpot card now got the right 1 the origional,i have a pc downstairs with a netgear wirless router how do i get the emac it to connect i am using aol what am i doing wrong
 
Are you using any wireless security on that router? WEP? WPA?

If so, you need to configure your Airport card using the Airport Setup Assistant to use whatever encryption you're using. Be aware also that the original card is 11 Mbps only so if you have to configure your router to work in mixed mode (b and g) and to use WEP encryption (the original Airport card doesn't support anything newer than WEP).
 
i have put the origanal airport card in but the emac does not show that it is there do i need any software
