Connecting G5 to HP 6mp with USB to Parallel cable

I searched the Printer forum, and someone else asked this exact question, unfortunately, the answer given had virtually nothing to do with the question.

So.....I'll ask it again, I suspect others might be interested.

I am purchasing a G5 2.3GHz dual core desktop, and want to use my HP 6mp printer with it. Tiger 10.4 has drivers built-in for the 6 mp. HP has their own drivers for Tiger, but recommends using Apple's driver.

I know that Asante Talk is a workable solution, but I have read on the WEB that several people are using a USB to Parallel converter cable (such as Belkin F5U002, many others out there) with seeming success, connecting a G5 to 4 mp, 5 mp, 6 p and 6 mp. My 6 mp does not have the Ethernet card, or that would be even simpler.

I do not need a network solution, only one computer and one printer. Thus, the cable seems to be the simplest way to do this.

Is it really going to work, as several people claim? And, will the printer automatically appear in the printer utility simply by connecting cable to USB port on Mac and parallel CN 36 connector on the 6mp?

Hopefully someone among you has tried this and knows the answer. Will it afford all capabilities of the 6 mp, including Postscript?

Thanks in advance for any info.
