connecting to win 98 from (emac)jaguar on novell network

In my school we have a lone emac attached to our novell network- I would like to be able to connect to or see any pcs (or at least to connect to our file server) but I have had no luck with the "connect to" from the go menu-
our schoolboard does not and will not support Macs.
I can connect to the internet through ethernet with no problem but I can not connect to the windows computers from the emac and can not connect to the emac from the pc.
My network admin. will not/is not allowed to help because the mac is not "supported" by the Peel board-
any solutions out there?

There is a commercial Novell client for Mac Os X, but I suspect it is too expensive for an individual user.

You can connect to a PC share by specifying the IP address and mount-point in the Connect to dialog. For instance, if the PC you want to connect to is at 12.34.56.78, and the sharepoint is Files, you would enter:

smb://12.34.56.78/Files

in the connect to dialog.
If the windows sharing isn't going to work on a Novell network, you can still get at your files by turning on FTP services. Then, on a windows PC, just point a browser window to

ftp://youruserid:yourpassword@ipaddress/

and you will instantly have access to your files. I've crashed a few PCs doing this though, as Windows 98 doesn't browse FTP sites reliably, except from the command line.

Good luck.
