Constant Upstream on my Mac. Spyware?

Hi All,

Lately my internet connection is seriously slowing down. Thing is, when I download or upload a large file the speeds are reasonable but surfing is really slow.

I had a look in the Activity Monitor under network and I'm seeing a constant upstream that's using my full upload bandwidth even though I have no open programs at all. Could this be spyware?

How can I proceed?

I use Little Snitch to see what is phoning home behind the scenes .... but even so, in Leopard, I believe there are certain 3rd Party apps which can bypass LS .. of course, LS may have been upgraded to catch these apps since then, IDK.
