Corrupt iTunes Help

A good friend of mine has considerable amount of tunes in her library... her own discs and more importantly, things she has bought from the iTunes store. The problem is, iTunes is constantly looking for a file ending in .IETemp. I am pretty savy with Mac and am coming up empty handed on fixing this. Once the error shows up (almost immediately), nothing can be done but to FORCE QUIT out of iTunes.. (v.4.8). I have looked at the different components that make iTunes work and eventually reinstalled a new copy of the software replaced a few components that make the library work. What I have narrowed the situation down to is that the file that iTunes is looking for exists in a BYHOST folder, yet iTunes won't take it. I have also deemed the XML to be corrupt and the file that keeps calling for this .IETemp. Without reinserting each tune one at a time, what else can be done?
