Corrupted Address Book What to do ?

2 days. 2 days i've been trying to solve this issue in vain. Please help if one can. Here's the situation:

Switched from using Entourage (reason: got convinced that Apple iApps would be more stable -not difficult- and quicker). Did it three days ago

All is well except AddressBook. Is starts up but only the menu bar appears. All menu commands remain grayed out. I can't access any of the command, not even to try to imports contacts.

So far I've tryied:

• trashing pref files; restart

• trashing cache files; restart

• cleaning up fonts (duplicates and stuff alike); restart

• re-installing from original Panther disks (with Pacifist); restart

• ran Onyx maintenance routines a few times in between; restart

• verified that AddBook does indeed work well on the same computer but under a diffrent user (so it has to be a user pref/profile issue, no?)

• yelled at my poor ol'Tibook

• scared my kids

• promised that I would never ever buy a windows machine 'cause it is probably be even worst.

I've been surfing and searching for ideas and hypotheses for problems/solutions. Now I'm really lost and I don't think that I can't get any further on my own. I think I've gone through 30 pages of threads on Apple's KB + searchs on other forums like ehmac.ca. But I can't get any other ideas to tests now. Can someone help? Direct me towards a viable logical (and may I humble ask, clearly layed out) solution?

I am not (NOT) going to re-install Panther if anyone suggests. Maybe I should just return to Entourage... It WAS a working solution. It crashed often on me, but it did work.

Mail is great, it's fast. iCal... well I'll learn to get used to its somewhat less professional-looking interface. But AddressBook not working? Gotta fix this...

I found something...

I have a French version of AB (Carnet d'adresse) AND an english version (AddressBook) in my Apps (surprise surprise (why on earth... did Pacifist re-install the English version by default?). The former is not functioning (subject of this thread), the latter is fully functional except that from within the iApp suite, the French version is sought/pointed to when needed.

So how can I make the switch so that my (French Canadian localized) iCal and Mail apps integrate with the FRENCH-canadian version of AddBook (Carnet d'adresse). Would it be as simple as moving the proper data files in the propo folders ?
