CRON or AppleScript?

I am wanting to create a script that will delete everything in a few certain folders that I have on logout, restart or shutdown. So my questions are...

1. Would this be better done with a cron job or with applescript?

2. Whether it be cron or applescript, how do I set it up?

A cron scipt only runs at a given time or interval, so that wont help you.
