whitesaint - your observation of this probably belongs in site discussion. 
unfortunately the active participation in other parts of the site seems to be less than satisfactory if you need help right away. checkout troubleshooting and you will see that it is the same 1/2 dozen people helping people out. there are many good minds here who just don't seem to get that people who post to troubleshooting are pleading for help. but post the same problem in general discussion and everybody jumps in. whole debates evolve around how to fix even trivial problems. while posts in the appropriate forums get ignored.
i wish i knew a better answer because deep down i agree with you. but you and me and 6 other people are not going to control the habits of others. so it makes sense that if you really want to get folks attention and get help, then you post here because someone other than simx, testuser, genghiscoheen, scruffy, and a few others will respond.
just as an example, notice the dates of post on this forum. go to dates in troubleshooting. notice how much faster this forum cycles. see how many more replies to problems there are here.
you got a way that will turn this around then let's hear it!! cause it would be great if everybody went and participated in troubleshooting and helping each other out, then came here and bs'd.
organized chaos is better than nothing at all at this point.
