Decent Office alternative? Thinkfree Office...

and I liked it. Had I not already bought Office back in Dec., I may have opted for this. The UI speed wasn't an issue on either of my machines (see below), but I could see how it could be on a sub 500mhz G4.

I'm due for a system clean-install anyway;) You know how it goes!

Anyway, the option was (as discussed in another post with fryke (i think)) that Okito would be the alternative to Word. I think Okito is fantastic but has much less features than Office and Thinkfree, plus doesn't support Word files at the moment.

I must admit though, it'll take some doing to get me to part fully from Entourage.

I bought Office because I need to open Excel and Word files just about everyday. I rarely use Excel or Word for anything else. Entourage, however, I find indespensible. It's a much better email than Mail.app, and all the PIM features are a boon too. Still waiting for Palm support from MS (QueSync is still not a viable solution for daily syncs, although I did get 95% of my info from Entourage in to my Visor upon my first and only successful synch).

I've downloaded DayLite and plan to give it a spin. It looks pretty promising...

but you have to put more in to get more out. Whereas Entourage is pretty much straightforward and ready from day 1. However, I've found DayLite crashes a lot.:( (Maybe that system clean install thing needs to be sooner rather than later;) )

The indespensible thing about Entourage for me is:
-- The colour categorisation of contacts (Clients, Potential Clients etc).
-- Seemless link between e-mails, calendar, contacts.
-- and the obvious links into Word with contacts.

However, I have many problems with Word (which really upsets me when working with it), and of which seem such mindless initiatives, such as:

-- Mainly, the fact that it has a damn mind of it own when trying to delete things like words, letters, sentences.
-- When you do select a contact from the Entourage list in Word (for a letter address for example), when you try to edit the address, it is impossible to delete a character without it wanting to select and delete the whole address!!!!!

Just these 2 reasons alone make when want a good alternative to Word. Entourage is a different matter, as we discussed, I find it pretty flawless (except that it made by Microshaft).
