Deleted or Lost Public folder... How to re-create?? PLZ Help

My finance who is also a noob either deleted or removed her public folder with the picture of the little guy on it from her home folder.

Were trying to share files ect. now that I also have a mac and I cannot do anything but log on to her machine as guest.

We have tried the obvious create folder and name it public with no sucess. We checked her sharing preferences and everything seems ok?

Is this something obvious I am missing or are we just screwed now...

...the required folders requires that you correctly set the permissions for those folders the same as the default ones would have been set with.

I have attached a screenshot of the Get Info panels for both the Public folder you will need to create in her User directory, and the Drop Box folder that needs to be created within that new folder. Set each of the Privileges in the Sharing & Permissions options as per the screenshots (using her user account short name in place of mine, obviously). Also check the Shared Folder check box for the Public folder. Basically just ensure it matches the screenshot.

Once all of this is done, log out of her account (or if that fails, reboot), then log back in to see if it's taken. If you're lucky, it will have – if you're really lucky, it will have even put the right icons on the folders. No guarantees that any of this will work, but it' worth a try.

thanks for the reply. We have done like you suggested and remade the folders and changed the get info to the pictures.
there was one hang up "unknown" on drop box is stuck on read only with out the (drop box)

when i browse to her computer on the network and connect as guest there is nothing in the window and i cannot create a folder.

You will need to authorize (click the little padlock icon) to make all those changes. You should be able to do them all with those privileges.
 
this was done with admin privileges its just the "unknown" that cant be changed to the option with the "(drop Box)". i am completely new to osx coming from Linux and its gui fairly similar, i don't see why i cannot understand anything shared on her machine.
