Hello!
I had a boot issue and was following the instructions given here.
http://macosx.com/tech-support/archiveinstall-in-osx-10-3-9/5177.html
Unfortunately for me - and possibly the worst mistake to make while following those directions - I used an rm -r * command while in the /System/Library/ directory thereby deleting all of its contents. When selecting what disc partition to boot from, my OS X partition no longer appears (I'm using the XP partition now) but using the Windows program HFSExplorer, I can still view the contents of the partition which is how I can see that the contents of that folder are empty (but everything else remains)
Long story short, is there a way to restore the default files to the /System/Library folder from outside of OS X?
Thank you.
Edit: A little extra. I resorted to the above method because for whatever reason Archive and Install wasn't an available option for me before, however it appears to be now. The problem is there isn't sufficient disk space on my OS X partition to install it, so is there a way to edit OS X files from my Windows partition?
Edit 2: I was able to remove files via the XP partition and was allowed to go ahead with Archive and Install, however at the end of the process it gave me an error about not being able to find the user files. Is there any resource where I can get a default System/Library folder so I can add its contents to the OS X directory via the XP program?
