deleting files from the trash

i am having a problem emptying the trash - on OSX - the message is that the files in question are locked - the problem is that the files in question do not even show up as existing on the computer itself when i do a search for them - (if i could find them i could probably unlock them !! )
any suggestions ???

Select all the locked files (they have a little padlock on their icon) and choose File > Get Info (or Cmd+I), and deselect the "Locked" option.

Then empty the trash again.

Alternatively, you can hold down the following keys "Ctrl Alt Apple" and then select "Empty Trash" (under "Finder") - this usually lets you delete files you otherwise have problems deleting.
