This ad in Monday's Wall Street Journal (page B12) kinda peeved me:

Dell: set a new LAN speed record with integrated Intel PRO Gigabit network connections

When it should read "Dell: come up to par with Macintosh" ;)

How can they justifiably say things like that when Apple has had Gigabit ethernet implemented for like over six months?!

This is just pathetic. Apple NEEDS to start tracking these lies down. Between this and Intel's "Pentium 4 makes the internet faster" BS, it's just so obviously fake that Apple should have no problem persuing a court case against them...

haven't they had it much longer?! a year maybe?
Definitely; my dual 500 has gigabit, and I picked it up in Sept or Oct of 2000...so that's at least 18 months.

So the real question is, is this a new record (fast or slow) for Dell copying Apple?

lol! i was watching QVC yesterday when they were showing off their Dell Dimension and I had to laugh every time when they said "With the Pentium 4, you can download files faster!" when it's all dependent on your connection! You could have the fastest computer in the world, but if you have a slow connection, it doesn't make much more difference!

There is a tiny grain of truth in the matter of CPU or RAM and download speeds. If your computer isn't fast enough to handle the incoming data, your connection will slow down.

The problem is that AFAIK every single computer that is currently on the market can easily handle the fastest incoming data (be it cable, DSL, or what-have-you).

Why is it that when we're talking about apple's slow processors then Motorola stinks but when we're talking about their awesome networking Apple rules?

Let's remember that Apple writes software and assembles systems. They didn't invent gigabit ethernet anymore than they invented their repackaged lucent airport.

Apple is cool, but gigabit ethernet is not the reason.

HEY!!! According to A-H, I have gigabit ethernet... are there any gigabot ethernet routers? If I have gigabit I don't wanna stick with this 100Mbit-thing(which rule my 10Mbit by a lot btw)

Damn, I've been blind

Nkuvu, a Quadra 605 with 20 MB of RAM can and does use the full speed of a DSL connection :)
