I am using Mac OS X, Version 10.6.8, Build 10K549.

I was playing with my desktop background and imported one of my own pictures. Now, the background will not change, no matter what I click or what picture I try to import. Neither the picture will change nor will the color of the background around the picture change. (This particularly bites because the picture and background color look terrible together.)

Others have tried to work on this, too, so it's not just me. I searched around for anyone having a similar problem, but no luck.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
 
Have you gone to: System Preferences-->Desktop & Screensaver-->Desktop? You change desktops from there.
 
I have done that. In fact, that's where I was when I set it in the first place. I just don't understand why it's locked now. It won't change. I even deleted the picture out of its original file to see if that might shake it up, but no luck.
 
How about trying this, go to preferences and find your desktop & screensaver prefs>trash them>empty the trash and a new set of prefs is auto. Created. Sometimes the prefs just get confused.
