Desktop/Finder takes 3 minutes to load

I installed OS 9 from the Software Restore CD's that came with the new dual processor G4's. This is the only OS 9 that I can get to boot on the new G4's. All my old 9 CD's are useless.

For some reason the Finder takes 2 minutes and 40 seconds to show the Desktop which is rediculous.

I can Force Quit it after 2 seconds and then it pops right up.

Anyone know what the deal is?
 
Have you done a desktop rebuild? That should help. Select restart and at the same time hold down the option and the apple keys. When you get a dialog box asking you if you wish to do a desktop rebuild, release the keys and click on the okay button.

If you are still having trouble, go to the System Folder>Preference Folder. Locate the Finder Preferences and the Mac OS Preferences and drag them to the trash. Now restart the computer, then empty the trash.
