Device Removal Error when in itunes...

I am getting a Device Removal Error when I am importing a cd into Itunes and stops the import. Doesn't happen all the time but does happen often. The error reads:

The device you removed was not properly put away. Data might have been lost or damaged. Before you unplug your device, you must first select its icon in the Finder and choose Eject from the File menu.

I am running panther, and tried re-formating.

Any help would be appreciated.

My initial thought is that you have a bad connection on your IDE bus.

But first, what model of mac do you have?

Here's something else to try: Try loading a cd in iTunes and just play it instead of importing it. If it plays thru without error, then I'd be suspicious of your cd drive going bad. The reason is that importing spins the disc at it's fastest rate & moves a lot of data, whereas playing it requires much less speed and data transfer.

Not the nicest answer but it's good to check these things.
