DHCP and MAC OX 4.7

I have an emac running MAC OX Tiger 4.7 set up at a school using DHCP. I can not connect to the internet using DHCP but I can connect to the internet if I enter the network settings manual - borrowing someone's Static IP. The schools network administrator will not allow me to have a manual IP even after I explained it would not work with DHCP. Says that the IP that the DHCP server assigned is a good one and that the computer should work. I've disconnect the computer and reconnected it to a different power and ethernet drop. Hoping to get a different IP - no luck - I tried to force a new IP release - no luck. Someone suggest that I trash the system config and then reboot and reenter the network settings - but if the school's DHCP server has already recorded the Mac address of the computer - won't it give me the same IP number? I don't know what else to do.

Perhaps it's simply a DNS issue. I would take the DNS settings from you manual configuration, then switch to DHCP and paste the DNS servers into the DHCP config and test it out.

Otherwise, you can remove (move to the desktop) the items inside of hard drive > Library > Preferences > System Configuration.

I know that you need to keep one of the files in there, but I'm not sure which one -- it might be NetworkInterfaces.plist.

After you remove them you'll have to reboot and then reconfigure your network settings.
