Digital Camera?

Hey guys, I am wanting to get in to photography,but the camera is a FinePix Something or other, so Im buying a new camera, what camera shall I get, I was thinking the Canon EOS 350D (mum said NO!)
Then the Canon S80 (mum said oh, thats nice)
But because I have no Idea could someone give me a recommendation of what camera to buy?
Im looking for a reasonable one, the Zoom doesn't matter, I will just be playing with them in Photoshop.

Jeez, you can get a Nikon D50 for about 50 dollars more than an S80, and i guess 350Ds for not much more than that. Personally for non-SLRs i favor Cannon, nice optics, decent prices etc etc. Its weird to compare the 350D to the S80 though, one's an SLR one's a real compact. Fr the non so compact but not SLR range i really like the Cannon S2 iS (or newer S3 is). A friend has one and its a lovely camera. For more compact i always went for the ixus range not the powershot like the s80. With the ixus range you just pick a price pretty much, as i think they do a range with prices increasing with megapixel. Personally i used dpreview to look at the cameras i was considering, its an awesome site.

Well Have you noticed that there is no camera between The Nikon D50 and the Cannon S80, and that is Kinda my budget, I also Prefer Canon
