Hi, I am wondering if anyone could help on this subject, im very confused!
I have a G5 power mac dual processor, plenty of space left and ram, its new to me but has been pre owned by a mac technician who has taken very good care of it, but since having it i have had problems with DPP. I am a photography student, have recently been doing shoots of around 1500 images. I have clean installed DDP onto my new mac, moved all the files from my old mac to the new one (but i have kept these old files on an external hard drive) I started fresh with my pictures folder on the new mac, with all the shoots since ive had the new computer going on my new hard drive and pictures file. Heres the process i go through
1. upload images from camera onto hard drive using DPP and eos utility)
2. check mark the images i think could be possible finals
3. create a new folder entitled possible finals
4. try to move the check marked images to the possible finals folder, and THIS is where the problem occurs. I first tried to move all the check marked images at once, and it crashed the programme, i thought this was ok though because of the amount i was trying to move. I THEN tried moving 10 at a time, still crashed. i then tried THREE at a time, still crashed, and INCREDIBLY slow to do any moving at all (it moves maybe one or two, sometimes all three but then crashed instantly after) i also tried moving two at a time, and then FINALLY one. This it can just about handle, but takes AGES!!!!. The folder i am moving the images FROM contains around 1200 images. the one i am moving it to has 150 images. i tried making a new folder, so it was going into empty folder, and still the same thing. I tried running colour sync utility and disk utility. i've also run tech tool pro. STILL crashing. Ive uninstalled then re installed the programme and STILL crashing.
does anyone have ANY ideas? ive got to hand in my final major project in a week and I cant work like this!!! its driving me a bit mad. Sorry im a bit of a novice, so any help i would be eternally greatful.
cheers
P.s it wasnt very happy about doing this on my old computer either but its never been this bad before!
