HELP!!!
I need real help! Mac OS X just went all wacky on me and i can't figure out why!! I just noticed problems after inserting a Crazy Taxi dreamcast game to see if it had any extras (sometimes they put pictures or music--Try Dead or Alive 2!!) on it, this is where things went crazy i just got the multi-color spinning disc forever and restarted (i couldn't force quit anything or relaunch the finder). I can no longer watch quicktime movies through Internet explorer (asks what to do with the file, i chose plugin but can't select the quicktime one-its grayed out) and other strange errors with other programs and X itself. Tried fsck and got an error while checking catalogs (invalid key name). Booted from my OS X disc and ran disk utility-got the same error. Booted from the OS 9 disc and got a "Invalid Key Name, 4, 2079" error with disk first aid, it said disk first aid could not repair it. I recently installed DivX 4.11 but i deleted it cause i thought this was the problem, but no changes. How can i fix this? Please I need help! I want to avoid a clean install at all costs!

perhaps it is time to consider investing in a real diagnostic and repair program. my first recomendation would be diskwarrior from alsoft. second would be techtool pro from micromat. you could go norton but i wouldn't recomend it. barely better than disk first aid most of the time.

i would also recomend spending the extra bucks and getting the disk sent to you if you buy online. having a boot disk is helpful and with diskwarrior you get plusoptimizer for defragmenting your drive thrown in at no exta cost other than the shipping.

since this is the second post i've answered of yours tonite, i'm guesing johnny v is not the guy to be right now.:(

Well, I downloaded a few disk programs, and none could fix it:p . I did a clean install of X and now everything is fine, just got to put all my software back on:( and it could take awhile....Thanks for the help anyway. I think the problem ended up being Limewire 2.0 but could also have be DivX 4.11a who knows...Well having a much better day and today its good to be me;)

sorry to hear you spent the money at my recomendation and then they didn't fix it. :( of course i am glad you got it running and all is well!!:D I don't know anything about either of those programs but i have heard of others having problems with live wire. I am sure you will find the repair programs useful in the future - i know i use one about once every week or two!!
