For some unknown reason my 9.21 Classic became unrecognised so I decided to re-install it.
Since I had the original 10.0 CD set, I had to first delete the System Folder (9.1 will not install on top of 9.21), then install 9.1 and then run the 9.21 updater.
Since then I frequently get a distorted or strange-coloured screen on reboot, irrespective of whether I boot into 9.21 or OS X. The only solution is to restart the machine....if you do that several times, eventually it will start with a proper, non-distorted screen.
It looks like a hardware problem but I think not for the following reaon: I did have this problem some months ago but it went away when I had to reformat my system disk and did a fresh reinstall.....so I am very sad to see it coming back.
To be sure it was not PRAM related, I have ZAPped the PRAM but it still happens from time to time....I do not think this made any difference.
Ideas/suggestions?
My configuration is iMac DV with 384MB and 10.1.3
PS - if you have the problem of Classic not being recognised there is a much easier fix than re-installing it in the Apple KB:
Mac OS X: Classic Will Not Start Up - Mac OS 9 Not Installed or Not Blessed
