Hope someone can help with this
I am using "Workgroup manager" with OSX server 10.4.7 on a mixed platform network (Xserve sitting Between Windows and our macs) .
I'm trying to manage "Dock prefs" for different groups (Basically, One for our staff group and another for our student group). The problem is, initially, when using 10.4.5, I set up Dock to be managed through "Computer Preferences" as I was informed, at the time, that allocating different prefs for groups would not work. I understand that it's now supposed to work with groups under 10.4.7. However, when I set up the "Dock" prefs and seleceted "Always" as I wanted them for the 2 groups and switched the "Dock" prefs for computers to "Never" strange things began to occur. When a student user logs in (first time) all seems well- until they log-out and in again on the same station. Then they get a minimal dock, and, as far as I can see, they appear to have lost contact with their workgroup, although they can still access and save to their remote "Home Directory" on the windows box etc. If they then log-into a different station, they get the good log-in, but only once! Similar things happen to staff, except when they have been added to the workgroup as an individual account - then everything works OK.
I've been advised to go to the computer prefs, switch the dock to "Always" (and Apply Now) then back to "Never" then Apply again, but this has not helped. By the way, sorry for being so long winded!! but this is difficult to explain!
