Does OS X Server 10.4 support email groups?

Hello,

We're looking at changing over to using OS X Server 10.4 for email. One thing that I need the email server to do is to support groups.

For instance, if someone were to send an email to "support@xyz.com", I would like that email to be sent to all individual user accounts in the group called 'support". Will this happen automatically if I setup a user group called "support"??

I'm unable to find anything in the Apple documentation, other than the "Forward to:" option for a user in Workgroup Manager. It seems with this I could set up a user named "support", and list all the "normal" user accounts in the forwarding address (although I haven't tested this). However, this seems not very elegant, and not an Apple-ish way of doing things.

Any insight would be very appreciated

If you setup a user called Support and then go into Mail in WGM for that user, you can set that account to Forward and list all of the user email addresses you wish that email account to forward to.

If that's what you mean? :)

so the only way to accomplish what i outlined in the example above is to create a user called "support" and list all 5 support reps in the "forward to:" under the Mail tab in WGM?

Is that the only way? Seems kinda kludgey to me...

You can also make a mail list and include the names of the individual users in the mailing list. Also quite clumsy as the server receivers will not know who and what was responded.

A better way (we work like that) is to make the support email account an IMAP only account. Whoever may handle MAILS to the SUPPORT account logs in and can read/reply to those emails. Other users can see a) it is read and 2) a response is posted. Also makes it possible to log the HANDLING of support requests by several persons and finish each others requests.

Good luck, Kees
