Downloading mail problems with MAIL

I am using MAIL on Panther. I have about 10 different mailboxes I am downloading from on different servers. It seems like more and more I am having trouble with password authenticating error messages. All of the correct passwords are in the accounts so why am I getting this from time to time? Even if I type in the correct password into the dialog box, it still doesn't download. This doesn't happen all the time but it seems to be happening more and more.

Also what is that little icon in the upper inside corner of the mailbox drawer. The thing that looks like a wing or lightning bolt?

How often do you check for mails? Many mail-servers block too frequent mail-requests and mail.app thinks you got a prob with the password and asks you to retype it. That tilde sign you are talking about stands for offline mode. Maybe you simply have probs with your ISP?

I didn't know that about checking mail too frequently. That's probably the problem. Thanks.

I check mail automatically from 5 different accounts with no problems.

The time for each refreshment is probably longer than 5mins, right?

Every 4 minutes using Eudora.

I think this is dependant on the mailservers you ask for new mails. One of my 3 mailservers doesn't allow requests within 5mins. So, I set it to 6mins. Maybe Ronald has such a mail-provider as well..
