Drivers required for third party PCI cards

I'm looking to connect my new ethernet port equipped iMac with an old Powermac 5500, which has no ethernet port. It does however have a PCI slot, consequently I'm looking for an ethernet PCI card.

My old mac is running OS 9.1 and I wondered if I needed any additional drivers/software to run a PCI card? Could I buy any third party card (ie PC ones)?

Also if anyone has any other suggestions for transferring files from one mac to another, I would be most grateful.

I'd suggest looking at a mac specific site like macresq.com (good for older out of date or refurb stuff) or macmall.com for a mac compatable PCI Ethernet card. If you buy it from a Mac site, chances are it'll just work or atleast include a driver.
