DSL speed mystery

I'm a Verizon DSL subscriber. I'm using OSx 10.2.8 on a dual 1g G4 and an ibook G3. The G4 is connected by ethernet cable to a Belkin wireless router and the ibook by wireless to the router.

The mystery: The ibook connection is 3 times the speed of the g4 desktop connection.

I can increase the speed of the desktop by rebooting the modem, router, and cpu. Alas, this lasts only for a few moments before dropping back down in speed.

The desktop worked fine until a few months ago and I don't know what changed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I'd try a different ethernet cable and port in the router.

Thanks, tried a new cable and port. Same speed : 355 Kbps or 0.4 Mbps (43 kB/s)

Any other ideas?

Try changing the ethernet settings in network. There are speed settings in manual configuration. Try changing from autoselect to 100baseT, if available.

In OSx 10.2.8 there are no manual speed settings in the network control panel that I could find.

In the meantime, I checked my speed yesterday and found that my uploads are now faster than my downloads
