Dual G4 Won't wake from sleep???

I have a G4 Dual 1.25 GHZ running 10.4.4

Just recently, when I try to put the computer to sleep using any of the various methods, it takes longer than usual, then the monitor will go black but the fan will keep running. (the fan never turns off) When I try to wake the computer back up nothing happens. The fans stay on but the screen won't wakeup. I end up having to restart the computer to get it up and running again.

Also, sometimes when I start up the computer I get the flashing system folder icon and have to put in the OSX Tiger disc to get it to start up. It doesn't end up booting off the disc, but some how uses it to get the system running. Weird.

Any ideas? I tried resetting the pram and running disk first aid.

Not sure about the waking from sleep thing, but re not finding the startup folder:

Go to

-> System Preferences
-> System / Startup Disk

and make sure your startup disk's OS X is selected.

Maybe you could also do some checking with a File System Check in Single User Mode (instructions on how to do so can be found in the Apple Knowledge Database), and possibly run a 3rd part utility like OnyX...

Hope this helps.

Hmmm.

Have you added any new hardware recently? (ie - graphics card). An inability to "sleep" properly usually suggests there is an incompatible piece of hardware (or an external connection) that isn't allowing the "sleep" function to terminate power correctly.

Have you added a new USB based piece of equipment? Or even changed USB connections around? > I found that my G4 will not wake from sleep if my new Epson printer is plugged into the PCI USB 2.0 card (but is fine when connected to the built-in USB 1.0 ports). Even though I especially purchased a Mac USB PCI card (and is fine with other USB 2.0 devices) it is a no-go with the Epson printer... Go figure?

Yes you are right. I recently added a CompUSA brand USB 2.0 PCI card to run my new IPOD Video. It must be this new card that is holding up the sleep process. It does say that it is made for Mac OSX. The only thing I have plugged into it is the IPOD video.

Is there anything I can do to make it work better or am I out of luck?
