Mac OS Rumors.com has speculated that Apple will bring out new PowerMacs around this fall...

"In its quarterly financial results conference call, Apple executives noted that big things were going to happen for the PowerMac this year. Can anybody say G5? We knew you could.... PowerPC 970 processors in up to four-way configurations, 900MHz front side busses, HyperTransport motherboard architecture with up to 6.4GB/s chip-to-chip bandwidth, USB2, Firewire 800, Airport Extreme, 8X AGP, PCI-X, 10GB Ethernet, and even more. When, you might ask? September, if Apple's plans hold firm, we'll see the first incarnation with most of these features."

I hope this isnt just a rumor:D :p

macosrumors trackrecord hasn't been that good as of late. lets hope something new comes out for the powermac in september but i dont necessarily think PPC970 is the answer.

as for dual CPU powerbooks (which is addressed at the link but not here). apple likes to be the first to do something and i think that would be a first but at what cost? seems like it would add a lot of heat to an already hot machine and what about the power consumption?

I've read before about possibly having dual CPU powerbooks... I think one viable idea was that it would use the two processors only when plugged in, but only one when using the battery.

Making guesses for september is a bit early... The 970's will be out far before.. [and a lot of otehr stuff before that].

nope, the PPC 970 won't hit the roads before september. rather later. ibm said so.

Why not before September?

And what next, waiting for the Toshiba's 40 and 80 G 1,8" hard disks untill June to be packed as iPods..?

If I'm not mistaken the 970 would be cooler than the G4, so heat would not be the main issue. I think we'll definitely see dual 970's in the PowerMacs before they hit the PowerBooks though. Since the PM will not get the 970 before september (as Fryke said) there is still probably more than a year to go before we even see single 970 PB's. It stands to reason there will be both at least one PB revision before that (with a 7457 maybe, not before July, probably even late Fall), and at least one PM revision (maybe two), which probably will be the first to get new chips. It is very unclear what precisely Apple is going to do wit the PM's now. They are definitely due for an update: everybody everywhere seems to be screaming for better-faster-more PM's & GHz! Hmm, overclocked dual 1.4 G4's? They could have done so earlier methinks... so maybe they still have something up their sleeve at Cupertino... let's hope so! :)

i visit macosrumors very often. BUT. in their last article they make some suggestions as if THEY ARE POSITIVE that they are going to happen.
the same thing happend with the keynote , they were makin suggestions that new eMacs and iMacs where goin to come out. but they were TOTALLY wrong ... so i wouldnt really trust anythin they say!

I thought they (macosrumors.com) were the ones who said that they were 100% sure that no imac/emac updates were gonna happen at MacWorld...or maybe it was the iPod...hm.....
