Dumb Address Book Question

This is seriously the stupidest question I've ever asked but it's driving me nuts:

In Apple's Address Book when you edit a user's profile there's a space at the top right where a picture can be placed. It then appears on the person's "card", (told you this was stupid, but stay with me).

OK- I have tried to drag image files into that "well" of every shape and size: 32x32, 64x64, all at 72 dpi, etc. I've tried all different file types as well; .tif,.jpg, etc. I've tried to copy and paste the images and even icons. The ONLY pictures that will actually STAY there are the ones in "User Pictures" in the HD's Library file.

I even (because I'm bored) tried to paste an image into one of the User Pictures .tif files in Photoshop and save it, didn't work. I saved the file then opened it in preview and exported the thing (thinking it was a creator type issue) still nothing. It looks like its working but when you save and then reopen the profile- its gone.

grrrr.

No one honestly has to answer this, its obviously a trivial issue, BUT...if you're sitting around doing nada, check it out and let me know.

I actually only have one pic that I've used in the addy book, it's a 50x54 jpeg. It was just some pic that I cropped in iPhoto and exported.

I just drag pics to the well and they stick. Make sure the files have .extensions (the proper ones at that)....
