I presume that you mean Xerox Phaser 8500DP. This is still a relatively new printer. You don't throw away a printer like that, you get it fixed.... My Xerox 850DP just passed on to the great printer pool in the sky.

Well, your Tektronix printer gave you years of faithful service. I currently own two Xerox Phasers, an 8400DP and an 8550DP. The newer printer set me back less than $1000 US. Unlike HP, Xerox printers are still built like anvils. You can currently get a Phaser 8560/DN to replace your old printer for $899 from Xerox Direct. It's a Tektronix (Xerox) Phaser 850DP (one zero) and it's seven years old.
That looks like a good price for a good machine. However, the specs go only up to 80 lb single side, 45 lb duplex. My 850's specs went up to 110, although I learned from experience that it did not like to duplex the heavy stuff. You can currently get a Phaser 8560/DN to replace your old printer for $899 from Xerox Direct.
