DVD drive has power but won't read disc...

I'm running OS 9.2 on a G4. I know, haha. My DVD-ROM seems to be recognized by my system. It shows up in the System Profiler in the Internal ATA 0 slot 0 but says "no mounted media inserted" even though there's a disk in there. The drive obviously has power but won't read the disc. I have already opened the case and unpugged and replugged the ribbon wire and checked the three extensions too. I've also reinstalled the DVD files from the system disc. Help! I'm finally ready to upgrade to OS X (I've been stubborn) and now my DVD won't work!
