DVD incompatibility issue

I have a mac mini with the intel processor and the 10.4.11 OSX. --- I received a DVD created on a PC with Adobe Pro Ver.#2. The DVD contains VOB files, along with IFO and BUP files. --- It will not play with the Apple DVD player (4.6.5), Quicktime player (7.5.5), or with the VLC player (0.9.4 Grishenko Intel) I downloaded. --- All other DVD's that I have play with the Apple DVD player. --- I downloaded the Mpeg-2 component for Quicktime Player because it was supposed to read VOB files. No luck. --- With all the players The DVD will play for less then a minute and then it will freeze up. DVD player says the format is unsupported. VLC says it can't receive the digital input. --- The DVD will play on a television DVD player. --- Is there any way, other then converting the VOB files, to get this DVD to play on my Mac, or is this a basic incompatibility issue between a Mac and a PC?

Fabtro,

I've never heard of DVD Player being unable to read a standard DVD. It's likely that the DVD is giving your DVD drive trouble. The DVD drive in your Mac is not made by Apple. It's a standard DVD drive like the drives in other PCs. Goofy media incompatibilities do happen sometimes.

If you have access to another machine, Mac or PC, you might try copying the DVD to a different brand disc.

Thank you for the response. The copy idea is good. And maybe to another format. One of the techs at Apple did say that some times a certain brand disk (in this case it is a Sony disk [actually there are 4 of them]) just will not be accepted by the Mac Player or firmware. Knowing Sony, it might be some kind of proprietary something in the Disk per se. If no other solutions come up I will go that route.
