DVD Player and Front Row won't play DVDs properly

Since I upgraded to Leopard, DVD Player and Front Row won't play DVDs correctly. VLC plays them just fine.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" bought in August. I upgraded to Leopard during the week.

I have tried a number of DVDs - they are all encoded in my correct region.

What happens is the screen is black, although I hear audio. When I try to view the DVD's menu, I also get strange issues such as, black screen except for the item selection indicator (e.g. on the DVD menu for Errol Morris's Fog Of War).

As I said, VLC plays the DVDs just fine (I don't like VLC much so I'd prefer to use DVD Player).

Just to check, I also tried Front Row and it exhibits the same primary symptoms as DVD player.

Can anybody help? I googled and searched this forum and some others but I cannot find anyone else with the same problem.

My wife's Macbook Pro 15", which is my old first-gen intel Macbook Pro (about 15 to 18 months old) is upgraded to Leopard as well and it plays DVDs just fine.
