DVD-RAM vs. DVD+RW

Colonel Panic
I'm considering getting an external DVD-RAM or DVD+RW drive for my G4. Does anyone have an experience or recommendations with either format?

Does anyone have any thoughts as to which format is better?

DVD-RAM is outdated, the media is hard to find and expensive, and it is purely a data storage system. Can't be used for doing video. Most of the DVD-RAM disks come in a plastic case, basically looking like a large 3.5" floppy, but with an optical disk inside. If you're buying something new, get DVD+RW, or DVD-rw, or something new :)

I currently have a DVD+RW Ikebana drive with a Ricoh MP5125A inside which I use mainly to read DVD's I make on a Philips DVD Recorder. I copy my work to the HD and then burn it to the cheaper DVD-R discs with my Superdrive with Toast. I would advise that you go with a DVD-R drive instead of the DVD+RW drive as 1) the discs are cheaper and 2) sometimes my DVD+RW drive is not recognized by the system.

Actually, I already *have* a superdrive, and I *can* burn DVD-Rs.

Now I want a *re-writable* DVD format so that I can do periodic backups (and later reuse the media for a future backup). I also want to be able to move multi-gig files to semi-permanent offline storage.
