DVD Regions on my iBook...

I'm going on a trip to China this summer where they sell DVDs for like $1 a pop. Naturally I'm going to load up on them but some are from different regions.

I really don't know about the whole region thing, but I know that you can only change the region code on DVD players like 5 times. Is the same true for my iBook? And if so, is this a firmware thing or software and can it *cough* hacked?
 
Yes. It keeps track of the region changes in hardware, and will advance its counter five times before it will refuse to change region. I have seen hacks for OS 9 DVD player that prevent it from advancing the counter, however I could not get any of these to work on my iBook 500.
