DVD to Mov, Divx, or other

OK need help- If I wanted to encode a DVD ( I baught, not keen on carrying the DVD everywhere ) but would like a copy on my harddrive. How to I convert the files on a DVD to *.mov, *mpeg. or DIVX. or other that I can play in QT or media player or VideoLan? I would greatly apperiate a little help... Thanks
