E-Mac Web Site Making.

Though I'm not going to build it till I become better with Photoshop I was wondering does my e-Mac (OS X 2.6) come with any web site building tools I can use instead of being escorted to .Mac? Thank you.

i dont think emac comes with site building tools ........ though i havent really used one.
You can buy Macromedia Dreamweaver, its really worth it. I have it and i use it a lot.

You could hand code :) Your eMac comes with the web server (Apache) built in, but as far as tools to develop sites, only a text editor I'm afraid.

If can splash the cash, then as Androo suggests, Dreamweaver is the standard. Adobe GoLive is the other. There are other cheaper alternatives also.

Have a look on http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ for alternatives (do a search for something like web building, or web edit, web tools, or something like that).

Also, Dreamweaver normally works as a 30-day trial, so download a demo from http://www.macromedia.com

I'm with uoba; hand-coding rocks !

A free tool: BBEdit Lite
A $119 tool: BBEdit
Also cool and free: Taco HTML
Also cool but expensive: Dreamweaver MX (which is also WYSIWYG)

Check'em all on version Tracker and, be careful, choose the one that fits your needs ! Don't buy Dreamweaver for building a mundane homepage, you're wasting money. BBEdit is fine: it's not too expensive, and you'll still use it at an advanced level.

WYSIWIG is for the weak ... Hand-Coding rocks! :D

BTW. OmniWeb comes with a HTML editor too (with syntax coloring IIRC) and obviously an easy way to preview ...

Of course, if your budget really is close to zero, and you aren't all that eager to dive straight into hard-coding your HTML pages, then you could try the Composer tool in Netscape.

I much prefer DreamWeaver, but that can be a little pricey, even at student prices. For a freebie, Netscape isn't bad.

Never was a fan of hard coding everything.

Composer tool?..Hmmm. that means though I need to DL netscape right?

Well, I check out ebay and see what prices I should be looking at. Till then, I guess coding will be the way to go plus it mostly likely be a handey thing to know.

Like I said, you can download a Dreamweaver MX demo, if you think you can get much done in 30-days. ;)

You think so? Hm, Yeah maybe I will do that. I just hope it's pretty easy to use. I hate to spend 20 of those days just learning to use it.

It's easy using the basics of Dreamweaver. Using advanced stuff from it can get pretty difficult, but overall DWMX is an intuitive tool. Hint: always leave the Properties palette open if you're beginning with HTML. I think this palette toggles by pressing cmmd-2.
