eMac booting blind (blank display, but boots fine)

Hi,

Have an eMac800, recently updated to Tiger, where display has suddenly gone black. This came on suddenly. No flickers or fade -- just went blank while machine was unattended today and now boots this way.

Confirmed that eMac still boots because other Macs see its shared volume after startup. Zapped Pram -- no help. Booted from CD -- still black.

Ideas? Suggestions?
